About the school's work

Essential Award 16 September 2024

Congratulations to Kingsweston School on achieving the Bristol Healthy Schools Essential Award!

Highlights of the school's work:

  • pupil voice surveys, anonymous staff surveys, EHCPs, behaviour and attendance records, and Thrive safeguarding data are used to gather pupil and staff needs and feedback. This information is then used to create an action plan and assess required changes
  • all classes use the Zones of Regulation to teach children how to recognize their emotional triggers, understand the effects of emotions on their bodies, and develop strategies to regulate themselves
  • Pastoral Care Team sustains good relationships with families and offers support, signposting to external resources
  • home/school diaries and Seesaw are used to communicate with families
  • Student Council decisions impact the healthy fundraising and ways school promote healthy lifestyles
  • Wellbeing Action Group (lead by trained Senior Mental Health Lead) reviews and updates the school wellbeing policy

What the school is most proud of:

"Pupils are beginning to comment more on healthy and unhealthy food choices and are showing an active interest in moving more."

As a result of working with the Bristol Healthy Schools Programme the school noticed:

"Staff appear to be happier and there has been an increase in the uptake of staff wellbeing activities such as more quiz entries. Pupils are actively engaging in more of the activities which we provide at playtimes and lunchtimes. Many pupils are drinking more water in school following our 'POWER UP' events."

Well done Kingsweston School, keep up the good work!
