St George Park

Description

One of Bristol's finest suburban Victorian parks, with an attractive landscape with many mature trees, a lake, tennis courts and a variety of wildlife.

The park features a large and popular play area.

Update on works to play park

April 2025

Due to funding, the play park refurbishment is happening in 2 phases. Phase 1 is nearly complete.

While carrying out the final inspections to the phase 1 work, we found some issues that need addressing before we can remove the fencing and fully reopen the play park to the public.

We're working with our contractor to do this as soon as possible. We're sorry for the delay and any inconvenience caused.

Phase 1 includes:

  • a toddler area with a swing set, sandpit and 4 new pieces of equipment
  • trim trail equipment for children aged 4+
  • exisiting equipment re-installed including an embankment slide, see-saw rocker and bowl-spinner
  • somersault bars
  • sensory chimes

If additional funding is secured, phase 2 will include more inclusive play equipment as well as equipment for older children.

Phase 2 will aim to include:

  • an accessible roundabout
  • an in-ground trampoline
  • swings and a second embankment slide
  • embankment climbing ropes and holds
  • spinners
  • older children's multi-unit and monkey bars
  • new safety surfacing along with bike parking and access paths

Facilities and activities

Local children and their communities were heavily involved in the design of the new playground, which includes a large bespoke lizard head structure with tunnel slides and timber climbing ribs.

There are also swings, a seesaw, toddler sand pit with mini slide and seats and bins.

The whole site is fenced to ensure it is dog free and includes areas of grass and planting as well as a large grass kick about area.

Access

St George Park is open 24 hours. There's a car park in Chalks Road and on-street parking along surrounding roads. Many major bus routes go past the park.

The play area is accessible from the tarmac paths in the park. It has a variety of level changes that makes access to some areas challenging for wheelchair users.
