Waste and recycling, toilets, showers, drinking water, electicity, fuel, repairs, access, slipways and storage

Waste and recycling

It's an offence to put any solid or liquid polluting material into Bristol Harbour. 

You should always dispose of your waste responsibly.

General waste and small items

There are bins around the harbour for general waste and small items. 

Large items

You should not put large items in the bins.

There is a a skip at Underfall Yard for large items. 

Bottles

Bottle bins and other separated waste facilities are shown on the harbour map.

Used batteries

You can dispose of your used batteries at Underfall Yard.

Waste oil and oil bilge water disposal

You can dispose of waste oil and oily bilge water at Underfall Yard.

Pump stations

Self-operated pump out systems are available at the Harbour Inlet, Prince Street Bridge and Temple Back. 

Tokens are available from the Harbour Office, Netham Lock (April to September) and from the Harbour Patrol.

The pump system needs a reasonable ratio of liquid to solid waste to operate properly.

To make sure the pump works properly, always:

  • make sure there's a good seal between the suction hose fitting and the deck fitting and the suction hose valve tap is fully located
  • use the fresh water hose and rinse the facility after you've emptied the tank, the pump is automatically programmed to allow this

Report any problem immediately to the Harbour Office.

Elsan disposal points

There are Elsan disposal points at:

  • Brunel's Buttery
  • Bathurst Basin

You'll need an access code for both places.

Dont use toilets for Elsan disposal.

Toilets and showers

You'll need an access code for all these facilities.

There are toilet and shower blocks in Bristol Harbour at:

  • Bathurst Basin: toilets, disabled toilet and showers 
  • Harbour Inlet: toilets, disabled toilet, shower, wet room, token operated washing machine and tumble dryer 
  • Harbour Masters Office, Underfall Yard: toilet and shower 
  • Mud Dock: unisex toilet and shower
  • Wapping Wharf: disabled toilets and shower  

Drinking (potable) water

There are water points at the Arnolfini Visitor Pontoon and the Harbour Inlet. You'll need a hose with a 5/8-inch union.

Water supplies may be turned off during periods of extreme cold weather to avoid damage to the water pipes.

Report any leaks to the Harbour Office. 

Electricity

There is access to electricity points for permanent berth holders in pontoon berths and quayside berths downstream of Bristol Bridge.

The metered electricity points are at:

  • the Arnolfini Visitor Pontoon
  • the Harbour Inlet
  • along Pooles Wharf (for visiting vessels)

You can buy £1, £5 and £10 electricity cards at the Harbour Office, Netham Lock (April to September) and from Harbour Patrol. We only accept card payments.

All connecting leads must comply with the conditions and instructions for connection to pdf shore supply(106 KB) .

You can buy replacement electricity cable from the Harbour Office for £2.94 per metre (this includes VAT), up to a maximum of 25 metres.

Fuel

Bristol Marina can supply you with:

  • red diesel
  • bottled Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG)
  • propane and butane

  • Castle Park
  • St Augustines Reach
  • Temple Quay

Towage

You're not allowed to tow a vessel within Bristol Harbour, the Feeder Canal and on the River Avon from Netham Lock to Hanham Lock unless you've bought a towage licence.

We can supply towage vessels and qualified crews if you request it.
