How the Bristol City Youth Council election works.

Young people in schools, colleges and youth centres across Bristol vote in the members of Bristol City Youth Council for a 2 year term of office.

Young people must be 11 to 18 years old to stand.

The next Bristol Youth election will be January 2026

September 2025

  • Promotion in schools and youth organisations

October 2025

  • Nominations open (young people asked to fill out application form)
  • Two information evenings about the Bristol City Youth Council and the Bristol Youth Elections

November 2025

  • Nominations close and application forms are compiled into manifestos 
  • Young people are asked to create a campaign video with filming session offered

December 2025

  • Candidate info goes live on Bristol City Council website

January 2026

  • Election packs delivered to schools and youth organisations
  • Two week voting period
  • Candidate check in session during voting period

February 2026

  • Election count day
  • Election result evening
  • Bristol City Youth Council begin their term of office
